Basildon Wastewater Treatment Works – Ammonia Removal Amtreat®

With Anglian Water rearrangement and construction of new assets to treat sludge’s through digestion at Basildon WwTW. The resulting post digestion liquors from a dewatering centrifuge and pre-digestion liquors required treatment to reduce the high levels of ammonia before discharge.

ACWA’s successful solution was to design and construct its proprietary high rate (Amtreat®) ammonia removal system. With only limited space available on site this system was designed to fit into an existing concrete structure with the settlement tank and MCC panel located adjacent along with the heating / recirculation systems. The Amtreat® system comprises of :

  • Anoxic / Amtreat® Reactor tanks
  • Final settlement tank
  • RAS/SAS Pumps
  • Recirculation loop complete with Heat Exchanger
  • Caustic & glycerol dosing systems.

Technical Overview

Design basis:

  • Turnkey M&E Project
